Mission:
Jubilee
Location: Level 62
Timeline: MD 02 Morning
The door leading into the Pilot ready room/briefing room cycled open with the soft swoosh. Raiden stepped inside and looked around to see if he could spot anyone to talk to. A pilot with the name of Jones thumbed over his shoulder, towards a chair.
"I'll get the CAG, can't call her though, will have to text her." and then Jones left to go find Sarah.
The combadges aren't working? he tapped on the combadge and got a mournful sounding chirp.
"What the devil?" he uttered quietly, as he waited.
Jones texted Sarah.
"Lieutenant Mackenzie, we have a new arrival he's sitting out in the briefing room waiting to see you." Jones looking out towards the asian man seated there "Sir what's your name?"
"Its Lieutenant Raiden Kosugi"
Jones nodded at the information, and sent the name to Sarah.
"His name is Lieutenant Raiden Kosugi."
After a few minutes, Sarah walked out of her office and made her way over to the new pilot, “Lieutenant Kosugi. I’m Lieutenant Mackenzie, DS5’s CAG”
Raiden immediately stood at attention when Sarah came out from her office. "Hello, ma'am, I am here reporting in for duty." he couldn't help but notice her attractiveness, but also, he recognized her stance and the way she stood, the look in her eyes of being in command as well as having had experience. He figured that she was about his age, him being 27 years old.
"Welcome aboard. I've been looking forward to seeing the types of pilots Starfleet was going to send me out here." Sarah said, giving him a quick look over, "tell me about yourself"
"Well it depends if you are up to dealing with a so called trouble maker." Raiden looking at Sarah his face impassive then a smile appeared. "service record, I can give you that. I've flown for diplomatic missions. Was a chief helmsman for another ship, then rose up the ranks to become an XO. After the ship was ordered back to Earth, I lost a rank as per StarFleets decision. Got into a little bit of trouble by spending the night with a beautiful woman, whose father decided to come to her hotel room to drag her out of bed. At the time, I didn't know who her father was, until after I slammed him to the ground. He turned out to be a commodore. That busted me down another rank. And sent out to here, of which I am happy about. A new start, but someone who is ready to get back to flying."
"hmm, so you're a console flyer. Ever been behind the stick before? I don't mean a shuttle, I'm talking about an actual fighter" Sarah asked, folding her arms. He wasn't the first helm officer she'd come across who thought they could fly a fighter.
"I got my flight license for flying a P-51 Mustang, and also a Kawasaki Ki-61. Historical planes where they used the stick and not console. Would that qualify me as being experienced with a stick? I even took part of dog fights, non holodeck." the dark haired man stated matter of factly. "Sticks handle better than console is how I feel about it. And yes, I've been on the more modern fighters as well." Raiden stated
Sarah nodded approvingly, "P-51 and the Ki-61. good choices. Every tried a Jet fighter? F4, F16, F18?" she asked, feeling a little impressed by his boasting.
"F-18, the Hornet." he grinned broadly. "Beautiful and back then so speedy. Yes I've tried that. Can't hold a candle to the more modern fighters but still a thing of beauty."
Sarah smiled, "true, the Valkyrie is a work of art in itself. Though the Peregrine isn't something to stick your nose up at."
"You are certainly talking my language, I love talking about the historical planes. Am I passing muster?" Raiden grinning. "Have there been any other who have arrived?"
"you're my first full time pilot. I've received a part timer but they're also a medic so we'll only deploy them when needed." Sarah answered, giving Raiden a smile, "and yes, you pass."
"Oh good." Raiden stated, "Curiosity, so it sounds like you have flown the historical aircraft as well? Have you?" Raiden looked around then looked at Sara. "Shall we go have a seat? I would like to do a bit more talking."
“I haven’t had a chance to fly a proper aircraft, outside of the holodeck, but I’d never say no to the opportunity” Sarah said, as she motioned for Raiden to follow her. “I suppose I’ve been too busy flying space fighters to every try in-atmosphere planes”
"You know if there is a chance, I would love to introduce you to my uncle, who restores historical planes and flies them I am sure he'd love to show his collection. Though I can do so in the holodeck. What do you think?" Raiden responded with a smile.
“Sure, I’d be happy to have a look. Your uncle sounds like a fascinating man. Was he a pilot too or just enthusiastic?” Sarah asked as she lead them to the seats.
"He is a pilot like I am. I followed in his footsteps, much to the chagrin of my father. He and I didn't see eye to eye, as he wanted me to take over his martial arts school, when I didn't want that. I wanted to do something more to go out amongst the stars." Raiden offered.
Sarah nodded, “understandable, my mother wanted me to continue my gymnastics career, but she understood my desire to fly”
"Hopefully, you didn't get into an argument with your mother. My father and I went into the ring, he called me out. My mother had to stop the fight, yes my father called me into a duel back then before I left home." Raiden responded with some regret. "It took a long while for us to get to where we were able to come to terms, we reunited, and all is good."
Sara’s smiled as she gave a chuckle, “sounds like you have quite the passionate family”
"Indeed I do have quite the family dynamics. My father tends to keep himself under control until something he is passionate about seems to be stepped on and then well. The result is what I had just mentioned." Raiden answered.
"I think that I can also thank my mom and my sister for helping to get my father and my brother to not be so angry at me. Then again, from my conversation with my father, I feel that he also had decided to forgive me. Especially since as he put, My sister helped to run the school better than what I could have done." Raiden flashing a smile.
He lapsed into silence as he thought of his family back on Earth.
A few moments of silence passed by, Raiden seeming to slip into some reverie. He shook his head, giving a bit of a smile. "Sorry I kinda went down memory lane there for a moment. " he leaned back and gave a little bit of a stretch.
A wave of weariness rolled over him, fatigue was stating to set in. "So, um if you don't mind I think I'm go get some rack time. I know its still Morning but, I'm thinking I'm going to be needing it before we head out on patrol."
He rose from his chair giving Sara a bit of a smile.
"Have a good evening, and thanks for meeting with me."
With a wave Raiden headed on out.
