Raiden had another destination he needed to go to and that was, the cursory medical examination. Even though he had already had gone through a medical exam before arriving, he did wish to get to know the medical staff that were on this station. Entering he ended up looking aroiund.
"Greetings, I am here to meet the medical staff, and to get a physical. Is there someone available?" a friendly warm smile was evident. Raiden wasn't going to present a negative first impression.
Chief Babatunde Oladele looked over. He saw the "Flight" colored uniform. "Do you fly something, Sir?" he asked. "If you're a walker, an Independent Duty Corpsman like me can take care of you and run a report by one of the doctors. If you fly for a living, you need to see Doctor Karzen, the Chief Flight Surgeon."
"Yes, I do fly something and where would I find Doctor Karzen?" Raiden was curious as to what the recommended Doctor would be like and what he or she would look like. Even though the name sounded male, he wasn't going to assume.
"One moment, Lieutenant," Babatunde said. He tapped his commbadge. "Doctor Karzen," he said. "You and your august presence have been requested at my location."
"I, and my august presence, will be there shortly, Chief," Karzen said.
"Understood," Babatunde said. He turned to the newcomer. "Doctor Karzen and his august presence will be here momentarily. Please, make yourself comfortable, Lieutenant."
August presence? Raiden thought to himself. This Doctor Karzan must be someone of importance for such a flowery introduction.
Raiden went to settle himself upon one of the chairs to await the Doctor's arrival.
Moments later, a grizzled Klingon with a long white moustache and the pointed ears of a Romulan, or a Vulcan, or a Zami or some such thing strode into the room. At approximately 1.78 meters, the man was short for a Klingon, but what the man lacked in physical stature, he made up for in presence, which was... sort of 'august'. He clearly had the kind of personality you just knew was going to take up space, even before he opened his mouth to speak.
"I, Karzen, Son Arjune, Son of Ragan, have arrived!" Karzen boldy announced to the entire room.

"You don't say," Babatunde smiled and muttered under his breath, though not with any real derision or distaste. Doctor Karzen was good people. Definitely one to put a smile on your face, when he wasn't making you laugh outright. "Doctor, this is Lieutenant Raiden, a new pilot. He needs you to put on your Chief Flight Surgeon hat."
"Ah," Karzen said, and turned his attention to Raiden. "I greet you, Lieutenant, in the name of Hippocrates of Kos and Apollo the Physician. In the name Asclepius and Hygenia. In the name of the Archelement, overseer of Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. Finally, I greet you in the name of Kahless the Unforgettable, lest he be forgotten! And he HATES to be forgotten. Shall we step over to a biobed and conduct your exam?"
Babatunde barely managed to keep from laughing as he rose from the reception desk when he saw a corspman free to take his place. Karzen could almost never just say 'hello', and he rarely said anything in one word when he thought it would be more fun to use ten. The large Nigerian decided he'd help the doc with Raiden's exam. The comedy would break up the grind of the day.
Raiden gave a respectful bow, "Greetings, and yes to the biobed for the examination." going to the bio bed. He was wondering about all of this pomp and circumstance. He wasn't going to be disrespectful as the doctor moved and spoke with experience.
Karzen took his PaDD out of the pocket of his medical coat and linked it to the biobed and began entering commands. "So," Karzen said. "Have you ever had a head injury? Experienced extreme vertigo with only minor stimuli? Ever had a social disease? Some of those can hide even after they're treated and come back at the worst possible moment, like at the big reveal! Also, venereal disease in one species can be something deadly in another. Take the Cardosians, for example. What to them is the Kilean Trouser Pox is Bentraxian Hemorrhagic fever in Vulcans! Fortunately, Vulcans aren't very promiscuous. Mostly. There was this one Vulcan woman I knew at university... but I digress. We were discussing venereal disease."
"I have been thoroughly checked and I do not have the communicable diseases that tends to wend its way through different races." Raiden responded without hesitation. "I have had a head injury that happens when being in marital arts, but it hasn't been severe to cause vertigo. I had been cleared to fly however as what seems to be the protocol, I check in with the flight doctor."
"Excellent," Karzen said. He looked at his scans. "Any weakness either side? Arms, legs, hands?" These days, scans would probably pick up any problems, but Karzen was old school. He asked questions and he did actual physical tests. He didn't just rely on machines. "Sit up, please."
What Karzan was doing, definitely was reminescent of old time military doctors. Raiden had participated in reencactment groups. Especially those of historic times.
"No sir, no weakness suffered on either side, Doctor do you believe in acupuncture?" Raiden was curious about that, or would the doctor consider that as a perpostorerous idea. He knew of some who considered oriental medicine practices to not be needed or used.
"The idea of 'chi'," Karzen said. "Isn't far off from the explanation of how the body functions, right? We have the central nervous system, through which the body sends messages to its various parts and in turn received messages. These messages are electrical. If you can control the messages the body sends and receives, you can, in certain circumstances, tell the body to do things. Could you, for example, cure cancer? No. But you can use it for adjunctive care. A few hundred years ago, the treatment for cancer was almost as bad as the cancer itself. Nausea, diarrhea, vomitting, dizziness, insomnia. While there were some allopathic treatments for these side effects, they came with their own issues. Acupuncture was sometimes used to treat the side effects of cancer treatments, and sometimes the symptoms of the cancer. Sometimes it was used to treat the symptoms of diseases that were uncurable at the time, or to treat people with chronic pain that seemed to have no other relief but potentially addictive narcotic painkillers. So, do I believe it is a cure-all? No. Do I believe that if you have a serious medical problem that you should use acupuncture alone to cure it? Absolutely not and I would do my best to end the medical career of any physician who even suggested that it would. In fact, I once did so. But it does have its place. As does chiropractic medicine, massage, acupressure, naturopathic medicine, and herbal medicine, when used by trained professional practitioners of those forms of medicine. Now, please give me your hands." Karzen held out his hands and waited.
Raiden was impressed by Karzen's knowledge and gave a nod of approval. He held out his hands towards Karzen. "You show a great amount of knowledge of which I am impressed."
"Okay," Karzen said. "Squeeze my right hand. Good. Now the left. Excellent. Baba!" Chief Oladele came over with a old school rubber percussion hammer. He handed it to Karzen, who gently whacked Raiden on each patella. "Good," he said. Before he asked, Babatunde handed Karzen an old school scope for looking in the eye. Karzen thanked him and looked in each of Raiden's eyes. "Excellent. Now we'll do the vision test." Again, without being asked Babatunde handed Karzen a bulky but light weight VR visor that was used to test distance vision, peripheral vision, low-light vision, and color vision. "If you'll please put this on, the visor will tell you what it wants you to do. I will be observing and making note of all the data I gather from the tests."
All these tests to make certain he was still fit to fly. Raiden went through all of the tests that Karzan was giving out. Eye test, depth perception, balance. The doctor was certainly old school and it didn't bother Raiden. Though he truly hoped that that tests would come to an end soon as he had a possible date with T'Lul, that is if she was still wanting to go out to dinner. The woman fascinated him, though he was wondering if that fascination was due to her being in his mind. He mentally shook his head, nope he liked her the first time he saw her.
"Tell me something Doctor, do you set foot outside of Medical and go out and around the station?" Raiden currently was a bit more interested in who the Doctor was and not interested in the tests he was being given.
Karzen removed the visor and gave it to Babatunde who returned it to its base. "Your vision seems to be excellent," Karzen said. "To answer your question: yes, frequently. I met Senior Chief Rylan and Chief Oladele quite a while back, when they were young men, barely men, practically boys... though Alex is a lot older than he looks. We don't exactly close out bars like we used to, but we have been known make the odd attempt to pickle ourselves internally." Karzen chuckled.
"There's also an old school watchmaker and clockmaker. He makes, maintains, repairs, and even restores mechanical timepieces." Karzen reached into his jacket and pulled out a pocket watch. It was a gorgeous piece of work. On the cover were the symbol of his mother's house, his father's house, and a caduceus. When he opened it, you could see the tourbillion in the face. For Terran timepieces, the tourbillion was first used in the Earth Year 1795, to counteract the effect of gravity on the accuracy of a timepiece. "My father became facinated with mechanical timepieces after meeting a Human horologist in the Nyberrite Alliance. He shared this fascination with me and, while I am not quite as mad for them as he is, I do find them wonderful examples of artistry and mechanical precision. He had this made for me when I graduated from medical school. Anyway, our local horologist here on DS5. He often lets me wander through his shop and look at his newest creations and acquisitions, and gives me a look at some of the pieces he's restoring."
"That is beautiful! I too have a love for antiques though I don't carry them around with me." Raiden said with great appreciation. "Maybe ce can to out for a drink sometime." giving a smile.
Raiden regarded Karzan for a few moments then caught sight of the time.
"Speaking of fathers and family. I need to meet with my father and mother; my sister and brother, via viewscreen. It would not do well for me to neglect the appointment that has been set." Raiden got off the bio-bed. "My parents will be pleased that I have passed the tests that you have done."
"By all means, Lieutenant," Karzen said, putting away his watch. "You are cleared for duty. Go forth and only do things that won't change that."
"Thank you for your thorough examination." Raiden giving a smile, with a bow he left Sickbay, happy that he is able to still fly.
