Mission:
Time After Time
Location: Command Deck
Timeline: MD21, 1400 hrs
Jason sat quietly waiting for the Commodore to arrive. Her Yeoman gave him access to her schedule as she would need to get ready for a meeting with Starfleet Command. He got himself scribbled into a five minute time slot. Hopefully it wouldn't take that long.
T'mpest had slipped away for a meal at Lasuma's and a check to ensure that two of the shops on the promenade had been repaired. They were, according to reports, the last ones on the list. It wasn't that she didn't trust the repair crews, it was more that she needed to get out and do something other than watch the time progress.
As she approached her ready room, she saw Jason Haines, clearly waiting for her. She glanced at Millie, who nodded, then turned her attention to Haines. "Good afternoon. Come in." Then she palmed the door and waited for him to join her.
"Good afternoon, Commodore", Jason happily replied and followed her in. He waited for her to give the ok to speak.
Once they were inside, T'mpest turned. "What can I do for you, commander?"
"Well, the rumor mill tells me that you have a date tonight", Jason replied. "If this is true, I was wondering when you were going to tell me? That way I could make the appropriate and discrete arrangements so you could enjoy yourself and Starfleet wouldn't be breathing down my back."
"We are going to Anatole's on the promenade, then to visit Venice in a holosuite at the Box of Delights. You will be able to track my movements, yes?"
"Yes, I will be", Jason replied, not looking pleased. He shouldn't have had to hunt this information down.
"I go to the promenade every day. The only difference this time is I am doing so on a date." T'mpest shrugged. "I did not consider it a significant difference. Besides, there will be many eyes on us tonight. Our relationship seems to be of great interest because he was dating the previous captain." It wasn't a secret, and Jason likely knew more about it than she did.
"I know you have a tight schedule and I have the details I need to be able to cover things tonight", Jason said. "We should however schedule a later appointment to discuss what we define as pertinent information. Given our different career paths and experiences I am sure we will look at things from different angles."
One side of T'mpest's mouth tipped up in a smile. "Yes, we probably should. After tomorrow, I will be able to find a time for us to meet." Right now, her focus was on her first date with Lasuma.
"I'll check in with Yeoman Yates in the morning", he replied. T'mpest could tell there was more on his mind related to the events, but there was a 'dam' holding the thoughts back. "If you want nothing more, I'll get out of your hair."
"Actually, there is more," she said quietly. "I know I am making this difficult for you. But there have been far too many rumors about Lasuma and I and we do not wish them to destroy what may become a long-term relationship. I believe this first date needs to be visible for a number of reasons, one being to quell the rumors. It will not be our last public appearance. I know this may cause some problems, and for that I apologize. We will try to be more discrete once everyone has adjusted. But I do not know how long that will take. To that end, I will listen to suggestions on how we can be both save and visible without a retinue following us everywhere."
"By all means, I will have some suggestions tomorrow", Jason said. "This situation is a bit more complex so will take a bit of time for us all to map out. Permission to be dismissed so you aren't late for your meeting. I've used more of your time than expected."
"Yes, you are dismissed. However, tomorrow I want to hear how you and Commander Wells met." Might as well find out more about his relationship since he was going to know a lot about hers. And it would help as she and Alanna would be working together on Pangaea.
Jason genuinely smiled for the first time in the meeting.
"I think I can manage that", he replied leaving her office. He had work to do before tonight.
When the door closed behind him, T'mpest sighed. Being the commander of the station was definitely getting complicated.
