Mission:
Time After Time
Location: Pangaea
Timeline: MD 13 Afternoon/Evening
[USS Canterbury Shuttle Bay]
T'Lisa stood outside the shuttle Chaucer, dressed in an emerald green gown. She awaited her XO's arrival.
Commander Kror Gar'Rel arrived dressed in traditional Ursinoid dress. "My apologies, Captain, my clothes seem to have shrunk."
"Perhaps, it is you who has grown." T'Lisa said.
"Ridiculous, I have the same measurements as I did in my 20s." He said indignantly.
"Of course, my old friend." She said with a small smile. "Shall we? Ensign Rel is waiting to take us to Pangaea."
"After you, Captain." Kror said.
T'Lisa made her way into the shuttle, taking the Co-pilot's seat.
Kror muffled a curse about shuttles not being made for people of his stature as he forced himself through the hatch and into a vacant seat.
"Ensign Rel, let's depart." T'Lisa said.
"Aye, ma'am." Rel said, hiding a laugh at the XO's antics. Her hands flew across the controls and shuttle moved effortlessly of the deck and towards the Shuttle Bay's exit. She'd completed the pre-fight checks, while awaiting the CO and XO.
[Pangaea]
Moments later the Shuttle Chaucer touched down on the planet.
The two Senior officers made their way to the party venue.
Commander Gar'Rel towered above most of those present and his girth would made linebacker jealous.
"Let's mingle." T'Lisa said.
Some time later, after all the mingling and the first round of food the Company and Platoon competitions had manifested and there were crowds circling the area with crowds ready to cheer everyone on.
In the middle of the fields Sergeant Major Velez addressed the crowd. "Alright everyone...QUIET!!" The assembled Marines, Corpsman, and other that had attended quieted.
"That's better. Now we will be opening up the various competition with a time honored at usually comical event. The Dizzy Izzy..." There were several barks and 'OOHRAHS' from the crowd.
Quieting the crowd with a gesture he continued. Knowing there were several onsite he smirked as he put them on the spot. "To commemorate not only our recent victory over the Cardassians, but welcome the new CO and XO of the Deep Space 5 and also thank them for our new base, currently under construction, what better way to kick things of that with the Senior officers and NCO versus the junior Marines!!! TEAMS, FRONT AND CENTER!!"
At that the whole area erupted.
The Marines around him started chanting. "COLONEL COLONEL COLONEL..."
Turning to Letsul he curled his finger at her. "Come on...you too."
Miranda walked over to T'mpest. "Come on, commodore. Let's see you strut your stuff."
T'mpest raised an eyebrow, not quite sure what to expect, but followed Schultz.
Cara gave an impish smile towards the Colonel. "Awww okay."
Khylara, the six foot five Klingon woman and the wife of K'doc was fascinated by this, she'd not experienced such an activity before. "Is this a test of Skill?" asking not only K'doc, but also the Colonel who was nearby. K'doc glanced towards Khylara. " Yes it is a skill based game where one spins around until dizzy and tries to run to the goal without being intercepted if I remember correctly. I believe it was a old earth game invented by marines when drunk. Not like that is a bad thing, it keeps morale up in the unit. "
Cara gave a smile, she knew what it was, and in some way could be a test of skill. And something fun to see just how steady one could be."Its a combination between skill and fun. Trying to run in a straight line, after going around in circles." Though she wondered if there needed to be a adjustment to what K'doc might need to interact in this game. If he and Khylara were to do so.
"That is way too low, I will not be able to play in this." Khylara responded with a slight frown.
"Of course you can, ma'am," Schultz assured her. "Just bend over at the waist, rest your head on the bat, and run around it. Bend your knees if you have to." She really wanted to see the Klingon try and fail, as that was part of the fun.
Terry normally would have been with the younger Marines, but being the senior combat medic, he was with the senior team.
He had been shot twice in the fights and he was still sore, but he wasn't going to let that stop him. He smiled, did a quick fun spin, and then joined the group.
K'doc Stood and watched the marines play this game , Watching the object was simple enough. But the skinny and flimsy little club that they were using would be a problem. K'doc walked off and came back a few minutes later with a metal pole the same height as his waist. " Your little club is to short, I'll use this instead. "
Velez heard the comment and looked up, something he rarely had to do. "For those that have never done this before...it is a team relay with half of each team on one side of the field and one half on the other. On the signal to start the first person will pick up the bat, bend at the waste and spin themselves around as fast as they can 10 times then run across the field. Once they cross the line the person on the far side does the same thing...and so on until the final team member has crossed the line."
Several junior Marines, having done these event before were confident. "Don't worry sir, we can give you team head start since you gotta team up with the fleeters."
Means simply looked back over his shoulder with a grin and a wink from his good eye.
Ah. A test of balance and determination--and not minding if you fall on your face, T'mpest thought. She nodded that she understood.
Miranda grinned. "It's a right of passage, sirs. We make the grunts do it all the time."
"So I am a grunt, am I?" T'mpest asked with a grin. "Then I must not let my team down."
Means huddled everyone in close so the other team couldn't hear. "Ok here is the trick to winning this. Once you are done going in circles...if you are dizzy...fall down. Then get back to your feet and run your ass off. While those kids are running sideways and staggering we'll be crossing finish-lines."
That sounded like good advice. T'mpest nodded and looked at the others. She had no problem falling down in front of the Marines. They'd seen her soaking wet after falling in the lake, so this would be nothing.
Splitting the team and sending half to the far side of the field while he went with the rest to the opposite side. Deciding to anchor his group waited for the competition to begin.
T'mpest joined her other teammates. "Sergeant, you line us up as you see fit," she said to Miranda. The commodore wasn't sure if she should go first and get it over with, or be somewhere in the middle. She definitely thought the more experienced of them should go last.
"I'll go first", Terry said with a smile. "That way I can fix any of you that comes over the line hurt."
"Good. I will go second, then," T'mpest replied. She preferred going earlier rather than later, especially as she was pretty sure she'd fall down at least once.
The crowd was already loud as the two teams readied themselves. Stepping out so the starting side could see him. "Remember you have to spin around the bat or pole 10 times and the next person cannot start spinning until the preceeding team member crosses the line."
Raising his arm, "ReadyyYYY....GO!" The cheering exploded as everyone shouted for the side of their choice.
Terry darted to get the bat and started to spin about. On his 9th spin all the rest of his crew of field medics yelled out in unison, "MEDIC!" and laughed loudly.
It took all of Terry's composure to get the last spin done. Laughing, he started running to the line. He stumbled towards the end, but managed to keep his footing, barely, and crossed the line.
Miranda watched Terry and shook her head. Medics. As soon as he crossed the line, she ran for the bat and completed her rotations as quickly as she could. Then she found the line and headed for it, but when she felt herself start to tip, she fell over. Then she got up and finished running.
T'mpest studied the first two as they ran. She was used to practicing with a dull sword and spinning around to swing, but she did not spin as much as a dancer would, so wasn't sure how she would react in this situation. As this was a Marine base and Marine games, she would trust his instructions, knowing that he did know best and she was the rookie here.
After spinning around the bat, she paused to get her bearings, then ran. When she listed to one side, she fell and rolled, then took a moment to get up, get her bearings again, and finished the run.
It was Cara's turn, she spun around like she was being a wisp of sugar being turned into some cotton candy, she did a roll coming to her feet. Staggered for a moment then ran to the goal being light on her feet. She was laughing as she did so.
